I think Buckminster Fuller describes it best: “A designer is an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor, mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist.” As a designer, I believe we need to have a broad understanding of the world. This allows us to apply our process, ultimately making it better.
I grew up on the North side of Chicago building things in my father's woodshop. I'm a kinesthetic learner who likes to get his hands dirty. Whether it's code or sawdust learning the ins and outs of how things work enables me to better design them and the systems around them.
Currently living in Los Angeles as the Design Director at Noun Project. I also work on lots of other projects, make art, and try to absorb as much culture as possible when I'm not climbing mountains.
My focus on the topics that inspire me allows me to concentrate on things that bring me joy. Over the years I’ve found common themes in what gets stuck in my brain, and what drains me. This list serves as a non–exhaustive reminder to keep leaning into my interests.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most talented people in the world on projects I truly believe in. Most of the clients and projects listed are collaborations and team efforts. I enjoy exploring complex problems when I can try on a new hat and learn something new.
For the last eight years, I've been helping build the world's visual language at Noun Project. As first employee, I've helped shape the product and team since day one. Before working on products, I helped launch the design practice Simple.Honest.Work. with my friend Scott Thomas. We shaped brand and digital products for global comapnies in the private and public sector.
The world is chock-full full of great inspiration. Each and every day, something new comes to my attention and changes how I view the world. I find myself recommending and talking about them over and over. This list serves as a permanent place to go for things I'm thinking about.
“Keep the love alive, the world needs you…”
Collabroation is one of the most important elements in my world. I'm always looking to work with new people in professional settings, on art, for a good cause, or just hang out with other great people. I’m also an extrovert, I get energy by being around other people, and fully believe that good finds good.
Everyone needs guidance and advice. I help people create personal strategies to accomplish professional goals. I'd love to help you. I use Rookie Up to facilitate all the booking.Book a mentorship session
